Brian Katz’s basketball coaching career spans four decades which includes the Division I, junior college, and high school levels respectively. In 2015, he received the Hugh Durham Award as the National Mid-Major Coach of the Year in NCAA Division l College Basketball. He has also been named District Vl Coach of the Year, Big Sky Coach of the Year, and has been voted Conference Coach of the Year nine different times.

During his 19-year junior college career, 109 of his 115 players matriculated to the university level. In 2009, he was inducted into the California Community College Hall of Fame.

As a graduate assistant coach at Santa Clara University from 1987-1989, he was mentored by two Bay Area legends, Carroll Williams and Dick Davey. Both have been enshrined in the West Coast Conference Hall of Fame.

Brian Katz’s coaching journey began in 1976 as a seventh grade coach and concluded as the Head Coach at his alma mater, Sacramento State University. During his 13-year Division l tenure, an impressive 98% of his players graduated, and his program received NCAA’s Public Recognition Award for academic excellence four consecutive years, ranking among the top 10% in college basketball nationwide. Remarkably, no other public school in California has received this award.
